Cutting grass is similar to pruning where cutting too much removes the leaf surface which the plant uses to photosynthesize and turn sunlight into food. If there is not enough leaf surface, your lawn’s root system will weaken as the plant uses up its stored nutrients.
Keeping the grass slightly longer in the summer gives the grass greater water holding capabilities and will help shade and protect the roots from the harsh summer sun.
During periods of extreme heat or drought grass is under a lot of stress and trying to conserve its water stores. Cutting the grass increases stress and reduces stored water in the blade. Best to leave grass taller during summer months for this reason.
Our skilled team of professionals are trained to recognize these signs and make judgment calls based on these conditions Fall is the ideal time to grow grass! Whether it’s aerating and overseeding, repairing damaged and bare spots or doing a total renovation, now is the time! Warm soil temperatures combined with cooler air temperatures create ideal conditions to grow grass.
